  Plein Air Painting Class                                                          

  

  July 15 through July 19, 2022 five adults and two teens learned the basics of plein air painting.  Painting outdoors (en plein air) has special challenges for a painter that studio painting, by contrast, does not. The plein air painter must choose where to concentrate, what to include or edit out, “freeze” the constantly evolving light, and settle on color combinations and dominance. And all these decisions are made when surrounded by the ambient noises, smells, and other sensations (heat/cold, gusts of wind, pesky flies, etc.) involved in being outdoors. It’s quite a task!

   

  The class embarked each day following a mini lesson at the Arts Center to five different sites in the greater Barton area: the Community behind the Barton Public Library, Crystal Lake Falls (we were rained out as we set up and so quickly too photographs into our studios), Crystal Lake boat ramp area, May Pond, and magnificent Willoughby Lake                                                                 .

  An exhibit of some of the work of this intrepid group will be featured at the Arts Center Later this year. Future classes will be presented as interest warrants.
