Greater Barton Arts mourns the loss of Dolly Parton, and rededicates our work to her legacy, The Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which through our efforts is gifting an age appropriate book to 1240+ children 0 to 5 years each month in the Northeast Kingdom
In 1995, Dolly Parton started mailing books to children in her home county to inspire children to love reading in honor of her dad, who couldn’t read or write.
That idea lives here too. Every month, 1240+ children in the Northeast Kingdom find a book in the mailbox — because of your neighbors who fund it, volunteers who run it, and a woman from Sevier County, TN who started it all.
Greater Barton Arts signed on to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in 2021 to give our children the best start in life.
While our hearts are incredibly sad today, we’re more inspired than ever to continue this important mission. Together, we are building a brighter future for our children.

Summer 2026 is a “transition” season at Greater Barton Arts. The Arts Center at 396 Main Street in Barton will host a Music Series and continue to provide community meeting spaces, facilities for celebrations, as well as for classes and use of its art reference library.

Greater Barton Arts is the Northeast Kingdom’s Affiliate for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library Program (for all towns and villages with the exception of Glover and Barton Villages). Currently Greater Barton Arts is providing free books to 1240+ children aged 0 to 5 years old each month (age -appropriate titles sent to them in their name).
